Levels of Play for Gibbs Little League

The Little League age is determined by Little League Baseball based on birthdate. Gibbs Little League does not have the ability to change a player's little league age based on any other factors.

Abbreviations:  LL: Little League            LA: League Age

T-Ball
  • T-ball is generally for the youngest players, ages 4 and 5, with little experience.
  • Tball usually consists of a 30 minute practice followed by a short game where everyone bats a couple of times.
  • The focus is on the basic fundamentals including respect, player safety, swinging a bat and knowing where to run.
  • This past season we grouped players by age level and kept the younger and older kids apart and it was more beneficial to do so.
  • Teams will  meet twice a week at Redstone Fields off Rt. 62. (smaller modified  field using tballs)
  • The league provides a jersey and hat. The only required equipment is a glove. Though many children get their own tball bats (USA bats only) and helmets  or share within the team.
  • Depending on the number, registered teams will be made based on league age (Leage Age 4-5, League Age 6)
AA
  •  AA is usually for players ages 6-8.
  •  Players at AA vary in experience and there is no prerequisite that players play Tball prior to AA.
  • Teams Meet 2-3 nights per week usually on Tuesday or Thursday and Saturday. Events are at the Red Stone Fields off Rt. 62.
  • Teams consist of 7-9 players.
  • During the first half of the year, coaches pitch 5 pitches to a batter. If the ball is not put in play, the batter gets to hit from a tee. In the second half of the year, kids pitch 3 pitches and coaches pitch 5 pitches.
  • Players learn more of the fundamentals such as catching, throwing and where to throw the ball for an out, cutoffs from the outfield.
  • The lineup bats through the order and the teams try to make 3 outs.
  • Scores are not kept.
  • The league provides a jersey and hat. The only required equipment is a glove, and for boys looking to play the catcher position, a protective cup. As players move up through the league they will find that many players also have cleats*, baseball pants, and their own helmets and bats (USA Stamped bats only). At the AA level most children do wear baseball pants and choose to have their own bats and helmets.
  • *Per LL Baseball rules, for all levels 12YO (LL-Majors) and under, only rubber/plastic cleats are allowed.
  • Small modified  field played with a safety ball
AAA
  • AAA is generally for players ages 9-10.
  • There are some stronger 8 year olds who play and some 11 year olds who may also play in this division who are still developing.
  • The games are 6 innings and scoring is kept.
  • Players only pitch, and at  this level, players should be able to defend themselves from a batted or thrown baseball as there are many strong players at this level.
  • Evaluations are held in March at this level and players may be returned to AA if they are not ready for AAA.
  •  There are 2-3 games per week with at least one practice per week but practices may vary as the season progresses.  Games will likely be M,W,F with very few weekend games.
  •  There is a playoff at the end of the season. Depending on the number of teams in the division, teams may play other towns or if there are enough teams, the teams may play in town only.
  • The league provides a jersey and hat. Players will need a glove, cleats, baseball pants, their own helmet, their own bat (USA Stamped) and for boys looking to play the catcher position, a protective cup.
  • *Per LL Baseball rules, for all levels 12YO (LL-Majors) and under, only rubber/plastic cleats are allowed.
  • Played on LL reg fields w/ LL regulation  baseballs
Majors
  • Majors are generally for players ages 11-12. (Some 11 year olds may play down in AAA)
  •  Players must attend evaluations prior to the season.
  •  These teams generally travel and play teams from other towns.
  • There are typically 2-3 games per week with at least 1 practice per week.  Games are likely T,Th & Sunday evenings.
  •  The division is the most competitive division depending on their skill sets. Some 10 year olds who are very strong players may try out for Majors depending on roster availability. The league provides a jersey and hat.

Little League requires that all bats used in Little League have the USA Baseball Stamp.   Gibbs Little League is obligated to obey the posted bat rules without exception. We cannot allow a player to use a bat from a previous season which is now deemed illegal.
